RAF has "Kit Approval" for the RAF Gyroplane from TRANSPORT CANADA (MOT) as well as the FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION (FAA) in the United State, and the CIVAL AVIATION AUTHORITY (CAA) in England, New Zealand, Hungary, Russia, South Africa and France. RAF was issued a NON TYPE CERTIFICATE by the CAA in South Africa.
In Canada, Transport Canada regulates gyroplanes. Based on the Airworthiness Manual Chapter 549, "Design Standards, Amateur Built Category Aircraft, more specifically to section 549.5. These regulations specify that the major portion (more than 50%) of an amateur built aircraft must be fabricated by an individual (s) on a non-commercial basis for educational or recreational purposes.
Registration of a gyroplane in Canada includes request for marks, submission of an application to construct form, proof of ownership, and a final air worthiness inspection for the issuance of a flight permit and a special certificate of airworthiness. As well, Transport Canada sets out the requirements for obtaining a private pilot license for a gyroplane category of aircraft. Licensing requirements in the United States are almost identical to Canada's in that the pilot must have 40hours of ground school instruction, a student flight permit, and 45 hours of logged flight time to write the examination for a gyroplane pilot license.
In South Africa, CAA regulates gyroplanes together with the licensing body RAASA. Based on the Airworthiness Manual for non-type certified Aircraft SA-CATS-NT Part 62, specific to Part 24.01.2.A.2 Design Criteria Paragraph (e). These regulations specify that the constructor remains fully responsible for the integrity of the aircraft. Any inspections made by an inspector, to determine that such aircraft has been built from acceptable materials and in accordance with normal aircraft construction procedures, are carried out on the basis of the information given by the constructor to the inspector, and by careful study of the relevant drawings.
